Living in Digital Times at CES Recap
With 250 exhibitors, eight conference tracks, five competitions, Robotics on the Runway, an augmented reality headware display and a live fashion runway show, Living in Digital Times gave CES attendees a taste of how technology applies to niche consumer audiences, putting products in the context of different lifestyles to solve real problems. While the products and services were diverse--refrigerators that can text you when you’re out of milk, wearable monitors that can track your brain’s activity, a laptop/tablet that can run both Android and Windows, and an app that tracks your pet’s activity level--the unifying themes of this year’s show were that interconnectivity and the “internet of things” open countless new possibilities for product development, and that’s what what manufacturers are delivering. And, many of the most responsive companies are smaller entrepreneurs, creating and stacking the building blocks of technology in new and interesting ways.
